The daughter of PLANT Supreme Council Chairman Siegel Clyne. Lacus is a Coordinator whose career as an idol singer has brought her enormous popularity in the PLANTs. As the Bloody Valentine War goes on, Lacus meets and falls in love with Kira Yamato, pilot of the Strike Gundam.
Later, when Kira is fatally wounded in a duel with his best friend-turn-enemy Athrun Zara, it was Lacus who nurse him back to health, and stole the Freedom Gundam in response to his desire to help save his comrade in the Archangel.
Near the end of the Bloody Valentine War, during the Battle of Jachin Due, Lacus stole the support ship Eternal and joins the Orb Union-owned Kusanagi and the recently defected Archangel to form the Three Ships Alliance, a group dedicated to stopping the war.
During this battle, Kira fought against the leader of the ZAFT forces, Rau Le Creuset, and killed him with a direct strike that penetrates the cockpit. However, the Freedom is damaged as well, rendering the mobile suit non-functional. He is then captured by ZAFT as a prisoner of war.
After the war, Lacus tried to have him freed, but with her father dead as a traitor, she was unable to bring any political power to her aid. Her own actions during the war did not help matters either, even after she returned the Eternal and Freedom. Eventually, she too had to flee, going to Orb for refuge. There, she enlisted the aid of Kira's twin sister, the princess of Orb, Cagalli Yula Athha. However, due to her youth and inexperience, Cagalli too was unable to gain any headway.
Unable to do anything for the time being, Lacus took residence in Orb, until PLANT Supreme Council Chairman Gilbert Durandal, in need of political clout, showcases Meer Campbell as Lacus, using her to influence the populace. The real Lacus is attacked by Coordinators from the "Coordinator special forces". Without any opposing Mobile Suits, Lacus is captured easily. Deeming her too dangerous to be allow alive, Durandal decided to kill her, but was persuaded that slavery into another dimension is a viable solution as well.
